London Borough of Waltham Forest: Kalamazoo Gals & Walthamstow Assembly Hall
23 June 2018 (Audio release of talk that took place on 12 May)
This event is open to the public
Location: Online
On INWED, the recording of author John Thomas' talk about his amazing book The Kalamazoo Gals - about how women built a very special Gibson Guitar during the war years will be released. The recording will be available here.
Walthamstow Assembly Hall was also complete during the War in 1943 and went on to host operas and ballets etc. during the bombing raids of London “bombs were falling all around but the music was divine”. We believe the Hall was also built by women.
The fact it was built at all at that time is remarkable and unique, that it was probably built by women even more amazing. We have been collecting oral histories that so far support the theory, but we are currently reaching out to ask the question and ask people who may know to come forward.
