24 June 2019 The event is open to the public Organisation: Greater London Region Professional Engineering Institutions Location: IET, Savoy Place, London An evening event for young professionals with talks given by keynote speakers followed by drinks reception and networking session. The general theme is in line with the celebrations of the WES centenary "Celebrating the past, transform the future" with a special focus on Diversity. The main talk will be a panel discussion where each guest speaker will give a short presentation around the topic "how diversity will transform Future Leadership". The panel moderator will facilitate with discussion and engage on a Q&A session with the audience. After the talks the event will continue on the rooftop terrace of the IET where engineering projects will be showcased and attendees will have the opportunity network and meet our sponsors. June 20 2019 This event is open to the public Organisation: IMechE Leicester Young Members’ Committee Location: Sir David Davies Building,Loughborough University Dawn Bonfield is a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor of Inclusive Engineering at Aston University, and Founder & Director of Towards Vision, a Company which aims to work towards a vision of diversity and inclusion in engineering. She is Past President and former Chief Executive of the Women's Engineering Society (WES), and in 2018 is an Ambassador for the Year of Engineering, promoting engineering careers through a roadshow aimed at meeting parents. Whilst at WES in 2014 Dawn was the founder of National Women in Engineering Day (now International Women in Engineering Day) and in 2015 established the inaugural 50 Women in Engineering List with the Daily Telegraph. Dawn received an MBE in 2016 for 'Services to the promotion of diversity in engineering'. In 2015 Dawn won a WISE Award and an Association Congress Award for the INWED campaign, and in 2016 she won the SEMTA award for Diversity in Engineering. In 2016 she was a finalist in the GEDC Airbus Global Diversity Award, and in 2017 she won the Women's Business Council STEM 'Starting Out' award. Booking is required. A short presentation to introduce Max Fordham and what we do, and show some of the prominent projects we have worked on. Explanation of the routes into engineering careers, and a speed networking session to allow the students to meet different engineers and ask about their career paths. We then split the students into groups for an activity, with an engineering volunteer assisting each group. The students are asked to design a school in various extreme climate locations, considering how buildings can be designed to suit their environment and how light, air and heat can be brought into a building. This requires them to draw and annotate their school. Each group then gives a presentation on their design. To wrap up, we look at an example building in each location and see how these were adapted to their surroundings. The event is aimed at a group of students from Parliament Hill School.
