About International Women in Engineering Day
International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) takes place every year on 23 June. INWED is an international awareness day to support, inspire, celebrate and raise the profile of women in engineering.
This year we are encouraging everyone involved to include the ‘Year of Engineering 2018’ in their planning for INWED events and celebrations. The theme for INWED18 is “Raising the Bar” with #INWED18 and #RaisingTheBar for social media. This reflects the Women’s Engineering Society’s (WES) vision and aims, as well as pointing the way through 2018 to WES’s Centenary celebrations in 2019, where the theme for INWED19 will be “Engineering Futures”.
The following is an excerpt from our full resource pack for INWED18. For the full pack with more ideas of how to celebrate INWED and the Year of Engineering whether you are taking part as an individual or as part of an organisation please visit: www.inwed.org.uk/resources.html

The Top 50 Women in Engineering (WE50) Returners and Transferrers
- in Association with the Telegraph
The WE50 campaign takes place every year to coincide with INWED and aims to raise awareness of the skills shortage facing the industry and the huge discrepancy between the number of men vs women currently in engineering professions, to change perceptions and encourage young women to consider engineering as a viable and rewarding career. WE50 is a fantastic opportunity for influential female engineers to become future role models for children who could be on a journey to be our engineers of the future. More details on the 2018 Top 50 Women in Engineering will be added to the INWED resource pack once launched or you can find more on the INWED website or visit the Telegraph’s website.
Draw an Engineer Competition
As part of our celebrations for INWED18 we are once again holding a fantastic competition for young engineers (5-11 years) by asking them to ‘Draw an Engineer’ using their creativity and artistic skills.
There are prizes to be one for the top three ideas and it is open to all KS1 and KS2 pupils.
You can download the poster here and use this across your social platforms or any events you have for young people!
