After three years of online events, the Women in Engineering Student Conference comes back face-to-face, this time widened to Women in Innovation, Design and Engineering (WIDE) with the theme Boundless Engineering. The event will be at the OU Milton Keynes campus on the weekend of 1/2 July, a gap in the schedule of Practical Engineering Activities and Online Project Schools that many OU Engineering students will be participating in this summer.

According to Nobel Laureate, Herb Simon: “… to design is to devise courses of action aimed at changing existing situations into preferred ones”. In the world, as it is, many changes are needed to achieve a fairer and more sustainable planet. Much of this transformation will be enabled by designers and engineers. This conference explores how to make a difference as an engineer or designer. The possibilities are boundless!

On Saturday, 1 July, there will be an evening social activity with a guest speaker, a STEM challenge and networking opportunities. The formal programme on Sunday, 2 July, starts with a keynote from Engineers Without Borders, followed by workshops, panels and a tour behind the scenes of the Open Engineering Laboratories (virtual lab tour available at
